Titanic Trail - Cobh Ireland Walking Tour

Spike Island Tour

The Spike Island walking tour is a unique experience and a fabulous new addition to guided walking tours in Ireland. Created by Michael Martin who has written a book on the place, this guided tour enscapsulates all the education, the passion and the unique perspective Michael has into the Island. It was only through his personal dedication in leading a campaign to save the island that any tours are possible here. Spike Island is only accessible by boat and visitors will commence their tour by departing from Kennedy Pier.  The Alcatraz of Ireland,  Spike Island's potential is similar to other world renowned attractions such as Port Arthur and Robben Island. As yet un-developed, a visit to Spike Island is a ‘must do’ activity for your trip to Ireland.

The Island has experienced all phases of Irish history since its first inhabitants, a monastic community, lived here in the 7th Century. This escorted  tour of Ireland guides you through the island's heritage since that time, through war and peace, the fortifications and the famine years, army life, gun emplacements and 'married quarters' right up to its more recent history as a detention centre for the Irish Prison Services.
